Final Illustration

This is my Final Illustration. I done a brief sketch of the girl which I then put into coral draw and created a vector outline using the 3 point curve tool. Once this was completed I placed the outline into Photoshop. Using the magic wand tool I selected various areas then on a new layer, using the fill tool I created the base colours for the skin, hair, dress and jacket. Then on new layers I began to add in detail, I done this by using a basic brush and the Gaussian blur tool to create detail. I really wanted the face to be more detailed than the body so I was using more of Bec Winnels style in my illustration. I built up the eye using different layers and colours, I added in some white to give the effect of light so it would look more realistic. For the eyelashs and eyebrows I again used the brushes that I previously used for my own versions of Bec Winnels illustrations. I find that these brushes are really detailed and very realistic. They make the eyes stand out and look more realistic. I also added some eyeshadow and blusher so the face was not all skin colour. I used a few layers for the eyeshadow then turned down the opacity so it was not overpowering, just subtle.
For the hair I used a base colour of light pink then on new layers began adding different coloured brush strokes which i blurred very slightly so they would look like strands of hair.
For the clothes I only added a little detail because Wai's illustrations have little detail. The jacket is my own design which I have based on The Pomidou Centre in Paris and the dress is actually based on the Eiffel Tower but as the detail is on the back it cannot be seen. Due to this, I wanted to incorporate Paris into my background to tie the illustration together. I really like using backgrounds that relate to my illustration, I feel that it completes the story, and this was inspired by Wai's illustrations.
The background was my own idea and I found an image of a skyline of Paris online. I placed this into my background and painted over the image. It was originally black but I changed it to plum to tie in with my illustration. I also added some shading to give it more depth. I also flipped it around so the Eiffel Tower was not being covered by the fashion illustration.
For the grass I used the shape tool in Photoshop and drew two circles which I then filled in green, on a new layer I added some shading. I used brush 23 and dotted it around the grass then pulled the opacity down. I done this so the colour would not look as flat.
I found an image of a tree online and placed it into my background, then using the leaf brush i added some subtle leaves to fill out some of the spaces.
I filled the rest of my background in blue for sky and again using brush 23 on a new layer I added in white for clouds.
The picnic basket, wine bottle and wine glass online also. I placed the wine bottle into the basket by placing the bottle behind the basket and using the eraser to uncover the wine bottle. This makes it look like the bottle has been placed into the basket. I placed the wine glass beside the basket.
The picnic blanket I created in coral draw because I wanted it to look more 3D and not a flat square. I done this using the 3 point curve tool and then placed it into my image in photshop, I then coloured the blanket in purple to match the flower in the hair and the skyline.
Overall I am really pleased with this illustration, I feel that I have combined both of my chosen illustrators by using basic shapes for the body and background and adding in detail especially in the face.
